APOLOGY
Dear 3BC3 students: I am really so sorry for my coming to the class too late today, which caused the cancelattion of today's class. I went into bed at 4am this morning after I finished preparing the Group simulation forms. The alarm did wake me up at 6am. The worst decision was that I told myself to stay in the bed for 5 more minutes. However, the sleepyhead took me over. No excuse. I apologize to each of you for letting you guys wait in the classroom and for my showing up too late. As a result, we will make changes to our schedule a bit. First, next monday, we will be discussing Compensation and benefits (Chapter 9 & 10) rather than managing employee relations (Chapter 11). Thus Chapter 11 will not be covered in the final. It is very likely that we may not have time to dicuss benefits (Chapter 10). Thus you guys need to read this chapter off class and there will not be many questions for this Chapter on benefits. Second, we will run Group HRM simulation for only 2 quarters, instead of 3 quarters. And the group based indusrty rankings will based the results of these two quarters (3 marks for top third, 2 marks for middle third and 1 mark the bottom third). The one mark for the incident decision that we will be missing will be added into the final. (The final will be worth 51%, rather than 50%). Third, I will post the industry rankings of individual simulation on the WebCT tommorrow or on Friday. Again, I am very sorry for my mistake.// Changquan Jiao

Hello all, As we come to the true conclusion of the course, I wanted to again express my sincere appreciation to all of you for allowing me to pass on some of the small amount of knowledge I¡¯ve had the opportunity to accumulate. In this, my second year of teaching, I was both extremely excited to have the opportunity to teach again but also worried that it might start to feel repetitive. When I look back now, after experiencing the individuality of such a large number of you, that fear seems completely ridiculous. To all of you that have come to speak with me about the course or other things, I enjoyed getting to know a little bit more about you.
At this point, I really don¡¯t know if it will be time for me to move on or if I will return to teach again next year. I¡¯ll leave that one to fate and take comfort in the knowledge that teaching was something I never expected to be doing at this point and yet it has been one of the most enjoyable experiences I¡¯ve had so far. I know that I will look back on all of this someday with fond memories and remember a number of you. And if I ever start to wonder if it was actually real (or have to show disbelieving nieces and nephews!), I have the pictures to prove it.
Whether I end coming back again or not, please feel free to either drop by or send me an email (lawsonajl@yahoo.com) if I can ever be of any assistance. On the exam, I wish you good luck and after the exam, I continue to wish you all the best, both in your studies at McMaster and everything else that confronts you in your lifelong journey.
I will miss seeing and teaching all of you.
Thanks again, the pleasure was truly mine, Adrian
P.S. Sometimes it¡¯s good for things to change and other times it¡¯s better to leave them the same. With that in mind, this part of my message is the same as it was in my message to the students from last year:
I¡¯m not big on offering advice but if there were one piece I would offer, it would be this - LIVE your life. Don¡¯t be a bystander in your own life. Take the time to ask yourself what you want from life and where your passion lies. If you know that, the road to get there will be so much clearer and the roadblocks along the way will be mere hurdles. Never tell yourself that you can¡¯t do what you want to. That is just an excuse not to work hard at it. The things you never thought you could do are always the most rewarding.
I have attached a song that I like to listen to every once in a while. It reminds me of so many things that are important but yet I seem to forget so easily. Take a listen if you¡¯d like.
